Carson Statement on President Obama’s Executive Actions to Reduce Gun Violence

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. André Carson (D-IN) issued the following statement:

“More than 30,000 gun deaths occur every year in the United States of America.  These are our husbands and wives, parents, sons and daughters, and friends.    It shouldn't be this way. It doesn't have to be this way. 

“It is long past time for us to take actions to reduce the threat of gun violence which is why I commend the President’s announcement today.  His executive actions are significant steps, but in order to end these senseless tragedies, Congress needs to act.  It is past time for us to come together in a bipartisan effort to stop criminals, the severely mentally ill, and terror suspects from obtaining dangerous firearms.  We should not have to choose between keeping Americans safe and protecting the rights of responsible gun owners. We can and must do both.”
