Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- The Citizens Federation invited U.S. Congressman Rick Nolan to discuss the future of social security and Medicare at a forum on Monday in Duluth.

Citizens Federation asked Representative Nolan to share the latest discussion on social security in Congress.

The non-profit organization educates people on earned benefits and how much of an impact it has on the local economy.

Citizens Federation officials say about $1.2 billion a year of local household income comes from social security, Medicare and Medicaid.

That number makes up the St. Louis, Douglas and Carlton counties.
Congressman Rick Nolan urged everyone to protect their well-earned social security.

"Social security is not a welfare program it's an earned benefit that people started paying for the first day the first hour that they went to work," said U.S. Congressman Rick Nolan, Minnesota District 8.

Citizens Federation is holding precinct caucuses statewide on March 1st for people to present resolutions to social security, Medicare and Medicaid issues.
