U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, along with Representative Rick Nolan, today announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a grant of $8,349,999 to establish a Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Duluth.

This grant will help the state provide burial service for 18,364 veterans and eligible family members.

"One of the most important duties is to serve the military Veterans who so bravely served our country," Nolan said. "This Duluth cemetery for military Veterans will help us continue honoring and recognizing our brave men and women after they have passed away, and will allow families to keep them close while paying tribute to their service."

The State of Minnesota submitted a formal Application for Federal Assistance for the project in August. The grant will fund the development on approximately 19 acres to construct buildings, facilities, burial spaces, and supporting infrastructure for the cemetery.
