Klobuchar, Franken and Nolan Urge Army & Air Force Exchange Service to Keep Duluth Store Open

Dec 19, 2016
Press Release

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, along with U.S. Representative Rick Nolan, today urged the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) to reverse its decision to close the Duluth, Minnesota location in 2017.

“Active-duty, reserve and retired Army and Air Force personnel and their family members utilize the exchange which offers a best price guarantee and tax free shopping,” the lawmakers wrote to Thomas Schull, Director/Chief Executive Officer of the AAFES. “Closing the store will leave these customers without a viable alternative as the nearest AAFES store is located in the Twin Cities, 165 miles away from Duluth.”

In the letter, the lawmakers state that the decision to close the store will have a negative impact on military personnel at the U.S. Air National Guard’s 148th Fighter Wing base in Duluth, along with thousands of military Veterans living in the local area.
