App Challenge

Does your middle or high school-aged son or daughter have a cool idea for a Smartphone App that doesn't currently exist?  If so, I invite them to participate in the Congressional App Challenge, a competitive competition that allows middle and high school students in my congressional district to create and submit their own app ideas for display in the U.S. Capitol Building.  

The Congressional App Challenge allows middle and high school students to compete with their district peers by creating and exhibiting their software applications (also known as an "app"), for web, PC, tablet, Pi, mobile, or other platform of their choice.  We accept apps written in any programming language, for example: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, "block code", etc.

With a rapidly changing economy - both technologically and structurally - it's important that we instill in our youth the values of creativity, hard work and entrepreneurship.  These critical life skills are essential in creating a strong, robust economy.  This competition allows students to do just that, by tapping into their innovative minds and introducing them to the important world of coding.

The Congressional App Challenge will run from June 4, 2018, through October 15, 2018, with competitors judged by an appointed panel of professionals within the academic, software and entrepreneurial fields.  The winning student’s app in each participating congressional district will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website, as well as displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building.
