WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05) helped to secure a new $6.9 million federal grant for Lake City, Fla.

 “This grant will allow Lake City Gateway airport to grow, improve and provide essential transportation services to Lake City residents,” Rep. Lawson said. “Access to this new and improved airport will allow residents the opportunity to travel safely and comfortably. Airports are important to business, commerce, travel and more, and I am proud to help North Florida improve all of these areas through this rehabilitation grant.”

Al Lawson’s Small Business Innovation Research Commercialization Assistance Act of 2017 (H.R. 2702) was passed into law under the National Defense Reauthorization Act of 2018. This legislation helps startups and small businesses bring their products from commercialization into the marketplace by providing much needed resources and assistance.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. — Today, U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05) hosted his Farmers Roundtable to address issues affecting the nation’s agricultural industry and rural communities.

During the two-hour dialog, held at the Tallahassee Community College Center for Workforce Development, Rep. Lawson discussed federal crop insurance, nutritional programs and trade enforcement laws administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also sought input from the more than 100 attendees, which included area farmers and agriculture industry representatives.

The food insecurity rate among African-American households is more than double that of Caucasian households. Latinos are more than twice as likely to be food insecure and twice as likely to live in poverty as white, non-Hispanics.

Lawson and U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, R-Ill., who sits on both the House Agriculture and Veterans Affairs Committees, introduced the “Veterans Agricultural Apprenticeship Act” on Thursday.
