In the 115th Congress, the House and Senate came together to pass historic tax reform that provide real relief for hardworking American families. By creating a simpler, fairer tax system, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will help put more money in the pockets of families and encourage job creators of all sizes to invest in the United States. This tax reform is a victory for taxpayers, and we will only continue to see opportunity grow in the coming years as much-needed tax relief is delivered throughout the country. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was signed in to law by President Trump and represents the most significant tax reform our country has seen in more than 30 years.

Actions

  • Introduced the Tax Code Termination Act (H.R. 29), which would abolish the Internal Revenue Code by December 31, 2021, and require Congress to approve a new federal tax system by July of the same year. This legislation would allow us, as a nation, to collectively decide what the new tax system should look like. Whichever tax system is adopted, if Congress is forced to address the issue we can create a tax code that is simpler, fairer, and better for our economy than the one we are forced to comply with today.” This legislation has previously passed the House of Representatives twice, first in 1998 and then in 2000.
