(202) 593-4555
Under Public Law 109-55, August 2, 2005, Congress established the United States Capitol Police (USCP) Office of Inspector General (OIG). The Inspector General (IG) reports directly to the United States Capitol Police Board, and heads OIG. The OIG supervises and conducts audits, inspections, and investigations involving USCP programs, functions, systems, and operations.
OIG is also responsible for:
- Promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of USCP programs and operations;
- Preventing and detecting fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in USCP programs and operations;
- Preventing, detecting, and handling cases involving misconduct; and
- Issuing Semiannual Reports to Congress that describe OIG activities.
In support of these responsibilities, OIG has statutory authority to subpoena or otherwise obtain all records, files, reports, documents, or materials needed to conduct audits, inspections, and investigations. The IG is independent and may not be prevented from carrying out any audit, inspection, or investigation.
How to report Fraud, Waste and Abuse
The people involved in USCP programs and operations, whether employees or contractors, are in the best position to detect problems. You can help OIG improve management and eliminate fraud by providing information to OIG about allegations or suspicions of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, misconduct, or unnecessary government expenditures.
You may contact OIG using any of the following methods:
