Tax Preparation

The following locations in Illinois's Tenth Congressional District have IRS-certified volunteers available to provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.

New Tax Law: Recent changes to the tax code will be reflected on the 2018 tax return, which will be filed beginning in January 2019, NOT the current tax filing season.

Please bring: all W-2s and 1099s (if any); Social Security Cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) for all family members; valid photo ID; copy of last year's tax return, if available; checking and savings account and routing numbers to direct deposit your refund; property tax bill; amount spent on college expenses.
