Federal Spending
Texans work hard, spend carefully, invest wisely, and live off a sensible budget. Washington should too!
I want to make government more efficient and accountable to hard-working taxpayers by cutting spending, lowering taxes, and lifting the regulatory burdens on families and job creators. By embracing the innovative spirit that drives American entrepreneurship and success, we can lay the foundation for a healthy economy and a responsible federal budget.
We need to make intelligent and responsible decisions now to bring federal spending under control and ensure that our children and grandchildren have greater opportunities. As a senior appropriator, I’ve long supported funding bills that save taxpayer dollars by prioritizing funding and trimming back or eliminating areas of waste and inefficiency. These efforts rein in executive overreach and bureaucratic red tape that infringes on the rights of Americans and stifles economic growth.
Federal budgets should restore fiscal discipline in Washington by empowering individuals, families, and businesses with the freedom and flexibility to build a healthier economy. Along with putting our nation on a path to pay down the national debt, our budgets should save, strengthen, and secure Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Most importantly, federal budgets must provide for a strong national defense through robust funding of troop training, equipment, and compensation.
I appreciate just how complex the spending and budgeting processes can be. I support working across the aisle to find common ground, while advancing policies that will promote job creation, economic growth, fiscal responsibility, and a better future for Texas families and communities across the nation.
