Our seniors deserve the protection of , it’s one of the most critical programs our country has ever created. Prior to the creation of Social Security, the poverty rate for senior citizens was over 50%. It has been reduced to single digits.

So-called “low-yield” nukes have the potential to lower the threshold for using nuclear weapons and increase the risk of entering the U.S. into nuclear war. That’s why I joined with my colleagues to intro a bill to permanently ban the development of these weapons.

We already have a nuclear deterrent that is more than adequate to achieve our national security goals. Funding new, low-yield weapons would only draw us further into an unnecessary nuclear arms race and increase the risks of miscalculation.
