So glad that so many people could join us online for our Congressional Briefing on the #Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Lots of great activists came to talk about our efforts to #StopYulinForever.

There have been mixed reports coming out of China regarding the upcoming Yulin Dog Meat Festival. I sincerely hope that the #Yulin authorities take public action to end the Festival. I will continue to urge China to end its dog meat trade, and I urge Speaker Ryan and Majority Leader McCarthy to bring H.Res.30 to the floor without delay. Thank you to all of the activists who have helped spread the word about our resolution. We can't lose hope, and we must continue to move forward in this fight together.

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings — US Representative for Florida District 20

Our nation’s civil rights have been under attack since Attorney General Sessions was confirmed. The confirmation of Eric Dreiband to lead the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department is just further evidence of the Trump administration’s agenda to weaken civil rights protections. Dreiband has testified against legislation to strengthen protections for women and older Americans facing discrimination in the work place. Not to mention that he lacks the experience in many of the civil rights issues that fall under the Division’s jurisdiction – voting rights, hate crimes, and police accountability. The attack on our nation’s civil rights continues. #WeHaveLostAlot

Commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship, whether it is mutual security cooperation or partnerships in agriculture, academia, or science, must remain bipartisan. As the Co-Chair of the Democratic Israel Working Group, I speak often of my support for Israel, and will continue working to strengthen our friendship. I am also privileged to have served as the Special Representative on Mediterranean Affairs for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe – a role that helped me understand the complexities, challenges, and opportunities of the greater region. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the coming year to advance American principles of equality, justice, and human rights across the globe.
