Today, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act.

The opioid crisis has devastated all of our communities. Americans have lost family members, friends, and loved ones to opioid abuse. While this national crisis is not going to be solved by Congress alone, today we once again demonstrated that we are committed to doing our part to help prevent addiction and provide treatment resources for those addicted to opioids. I thank the many members of both the House and Senate that worked on getting this bill to the finish line and look forward to President Trump signing it into law. Help is on its way to communities across the United States.

Yesterday I completed my annual Agriculture Tour through #VA06. This year’s tour has given me insight on the success stories, challenges, and difficulties that farmers and agribusiness leaders are experiencing. The information I’ve learned will assist me in helping craft the 2018 Farm Bill. I want to thank the folks who met with me and took time out of their busy schedules to show me around their farms and businesses.

I always learn something new while visiting museums like the Virginia Quilt Museum and the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia! Did you know that every year Smithsonian Magazine hosts a #MuseumDay where local museums offer free general admission with a Museum Day ticket? On September 22, local museums throughout #VA06 are participating. Download your ticket today at www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday to see what new things you can learn too!

Today we share a moment of silence to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. After the attacks, communities came together to show the world the strength and perseverance of the American people. Thank you to emergency personnel who ran towards destruction and chaos to help those in need. We will never forget those who died in honor and our prayers are with the families who still grieve the loss of their loved ones.

‪I am deeply saddened by the news of Senator John McCain’s passing. We mourn the loss of a national hero. Senator McCain fought valiantly for his life, his country, and his constituents. His dedication to service is reflected in our military and in the U.S. Senate. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.‬

Today, on #PurpleHeartDay, we take a moment to remember and honor the bravery of all wounded and fallen heroes. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
