For several years I've voted to block arms sales to Saudi Arabia over human rights abuses & killings of innocent civilians in Yemen. This tragedy raises more concerns over Saudi actions & reinforces the need to stop future arms sales & reassess our relationship with the Saudis.

Anyone involved must be held accountable and that means rejecting any attempt to shield decision makers from responsibility. The targeting of a well-known journalist & critic would undoubtedly need approval from the highest levels of the Saudi government.

The apparent death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of the Saudi government is appalling. I’ve joined colleagues on the Foreign Relations Committee to seek sanctions against anyone involved in this horrific act.

Senators , and 's “Justice for Victims of Lynching” bill has moved forward in the Senate. It's pretty common sense – name lynching as the racism it is and outlaw it.

Today the anti-lynching bill I introduced w/ Senators Harris & Scott passed out of committee. Our bill is a painful, but necessary, acknowledgement of our nation’s horrific past of racialized violence. We’re now one step closer to finally making lynching a federal crime.
