Who decided to call it a "Presidential Alert?" Why not "Nationwide FEMA Alert?"

Is there an opt out?
-
Hi there, you can block local wireless emergency alerts (WEAs) by changing the settings on your phone. However, by law (the WARN Act of 2006), you cannot opt out of receiving Presidential Alerts, which will only be used for national emergencies.

Thanks for the info.

What if we never received it but other people did? Then I had a student in my college class that didn't get her alert until 8 pm.

Hi, thanks for sharing. There are a number of reasons why you may not have received the alert. This is why we work with mobile providers &
@FCC to test the system & identify issues. You can also send feedback directly to FEMA-National-Test@fema.dhs.gov.

Any idea why myself and a few others I know that have
@ATT didn’t get it yesterday? -
Hi Staci, there are a number of reasons why you may not have received the alert. This is why we test the system to identify issues beforehand. We’ll be working with mobile providers and
@FCC to determine what improvements need to be made.

Hi Charmaine, if your phone is off, you may not receive the alert depending on when you switch it back on.

Thanks for the reminder that I'll be turning off my phone before it happens!
-
Per my carrier the message will just be waiting for you when you turn your phone back on. I wish everyone would flood their carriers with calls requesting it be noted on their account they requested to opt out.
-
Darn, that's what I was afraid of. I'll just delete it as soon as it appears. Wish there was a way to opt out of it though.
-
Y'all seriously want to opt out of a system that alerts you of a national emergency? Y'all are always the first to go in the end of the world/2012 type movie. Okay, y'all go ahead and complain while I head to my bunker and survive.
