Beto O'Rourke was the first Democrat for Senate to win Tarrant County, TX (Ft. Worth) since Lloyd Bentsen. No Democrat for President has won it since Johnson. Tarrant is a microcosm of suburban Texas's Trump revolt. Precinct returns for 2012, 2016, and 2018 below.

O'Rourke tended to outperform Clinton the least in counties with a large share of Hispanics, many of them in the Rio Grande valley. However, this may have been more because of Cruz than O'Rourke - in 2012 Cruz outperformed Romney the most in heavily Hispanic counties.

A look at Democratic vote share in Texas since 2010. In the big 30 counties, a decisive move toward Ds over the last couple of cycles. In the rest of the state, Bill White was the high point, though O'Rourke claws back from D lows of 2014 and 2016.

Political realignment, Texas style: O'Rourke's county margins more closely mirrored those of Clinton 2016 (r^2 = .976) than Obama 2012 (r^2 = .926).
