THREAD: 2 weeks ago, a senior Education Dept official (who is also a former for-profit college exec) issued a recommendation: @BetsyDeVosED should grant ACICS an additional year as a recognized college accreditor.
ACICS has a record of accrediting predatory for-profit schools.

A new report - just released by
@GiBillRights - clearly shows that Secretary DeVos will harm both students and taxpayers if she follows that recommendation. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/556718b2e4b02e470eb1b186/t/5bbf8e8ce79c7079cedfe589/1539280525168/ACICS+Issue+Brief.FINAL.pdf …1 reply 6 retweets 6 likesShow this thread -
The report found: 1. 70% of students at ACICS-approved colleges end up earning no more than a high school graduate who doesn't go to college at all. 2. Students at ACICS-approved colleges are 2x as likely to have unmanageable debt. This is costing both students and taxpayers.pic.twitter.com/X9ot0G4aIa

In fact, ACICS-approved school are performing EVEN WORSE compared to 2016, when the Obama admin first revoked ACICS’s power to accredit schools. But – despite all the evidence – the Trump administration is planning to allow ACICS to continue accrediting poor-performing schools.pic.twitter.com/uanTOdgkYv
