    To put this in context: 38 House pickups would easily be the most by Democrats since 1974 It would give Pelosi a bigger majority than Hastert ever had during his 8 years as speaker 7 governor pickups is the most for any party since 1994

    NBC News now Democrats will have won 31 House seats — the same number they won in the 2006 wave. A dozen races still yet to be called. could push that number closer to 38.

    NOTE: After today's breaking news from Florida and Arizona, there's a decent chance the Republicans end up gaining only *one* seat in the US Senate (52-48 from 51-49). That would eliminate even the *fantasy* the GOP has that this wasn't a clear-cut . Bottom line: it was.
