Advocacy in South Dakota
When Veterans walk in to the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program in McLaughlin, South Dakota, many are suffering from mental and physical conditions like substance abuse or PTSD. In addition to dealing with physical and medical problems, they are coping with loss and other complex emotions.
Employees such as Linda Comeau, the McLaughin CWT Program Coordinator, give Veterans the extra help they need to lead a healthier lifestyle. She wants to give them the care they need and deserve.
Linda hung her I CARE poster proudly at CWT. She sees it as a sign of her commitment to excellence in her work to help Veterans in her community. A VA employee of 16 years, Linda says she wakes up each morning honored to come to work. She loves working side-by-side with them, to aid them in their physical and mental recovery.
"Whether it be calling someone at the VBA office to help get the Veteran an answer on their claim, helping them to find housing, or getting them the training they need to get a better job, I am doing everything I can to help them get better." Linda strongly believes in VA's mission and values, and wants to make a difference to Veterans. She shows I CARE through her desire for high quality, and to building a better VA.
