Due to a lapse in appropriations, EPA websites will not be regularly updated. In the event of an environmental emergency imminently threatening the safety of human life or where necessary to protect certain property, the EPA website will be updated with appropriate information. Please note that all information on the EPA website may not be up to date, and transactions and inquiries submitted to the EPA website may not be processed or responded to until appropriations are enacted.

Safer Chemicals Research

Chemicals are the building blocks for many products in today’s global economy. Sustainable chemical use and manufacturing protects and improves human health and the environment without compromising future generations. Minimizing chemical risks through innovative strategies for designing, producing, and using safer chemicals is a priority for EPA.

EPA’s safer chemicals research characterizes real-world exposures and early indicators of harm, allowing proactive decision-making on existing chemicals. Safer chemicals research evaluates the potential impacts of emerging materials as well, enabling safer and more sustainable use of new chemicals.
