In an effort to fulfill our mission to advance global cancer research, the Center for Global Health sponsors and participates in a number of global health events for both national and international audiences. Although events vary by region and topic, they all focus on the open exchange of scientific knowledge.

International Cancer Screening Conference 2019

NCI-CGH and Erasmus MC Department of Public Health are organizing the 2019 International Cancer Screening Network (ICSN) Conference which will take place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on June 3-5, 2019. The theme of the conference will be Screening in Balance, emphasizing the importance of continuously weighing the benefits and harms of cancer screening programs. ICSN 2019 will focus on collaborative research that fosters efficient and effective approaches to cancer control worldwide through organized approaches to population-based cancer screening. Breast Health Global Initiative Summit 2018

CGH will participate at the Breast Health Global Initiative Global Summit 2018 in October. This year's focus is on International Breast Health and Cancer Control: Improving Breast Health Care through Resource Stratified Phased Implementation, and provides a unique opportunity for the international community to examine the current state of scientific understanding regarding successful models of breast cancer diagnosis, care delivery, and resource utilization, and to analyze issues affecting barriers in access to care.
European Society for Medical Oncology 2018 Congress

Dr. Lisa Stevens, CGH’s Deputy Director, and Dr. Sophia Michaelson, CGH’s Head of Eurasia Programs, discuss with representatives from Eurasian countries the experiences and lessons learned in the development and implementation of National Cancer Control Plans at the European Society for Medical Oncology 2018 Congress session on Oct. 20th: The way to assure sustainable, accessible and affordable cancer care within National Cancer Control Plans (NCCP).
2018 World Cancer Congress

Representatives from the National Cancer Institute will be participating at the 2018 World Cancer Congress in a variety of presentations and ePoster sessions. This year, the World Cancer Congress aims to strengthen the participants' action and impact on national, regional, and international scales through a multidisciplinary program that features the latest successful interventions in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care. Asia Pacific Conference on Tobacco or Health
September 13-15, 2018

Dr. Mark Parascandola will represent CGH at the 12th Asia Pacific Conference on Tobacco or Health (APACT) in Nusa Dua, Indonesia. CGH has organized a special symposium session, “Strategies for research and developing policy interventions on betel quid and areca nut to prevent oral cancers.” Dr. Parascandola will be presenting research on betel quid and areca nut (BQ/AN) at the special symposium session as well as in a rapid-fire session to raise awareness of the burden of disease caused by BQ/AN use in the region.
Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Technologies for Low-Resource Settings Webinar

CGH and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) hosted a joint informational webinar to discuss two new funding opportunities for Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Technologies for Low-Resource Settings (Clinical Trial Optional) on Tuesday, July 24th. These funding opportunities encourage SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications from small business concerns (SBCs) proposing commercially-directed research for the development of cancer prevention, diagnosis, or treatment technologies to improve cancer outcomes in low- and middle-income countries and low-resource settings in the United States. Affordable Cancer Technologies Program Principal Investigator Meeting
Cancer Detection, Diagnosis, and Treatment Technologies for Global Health

The National Cancer Institute, in collaboration with the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, supports the translation of resource-appropriate technologies for global health through the Affordable Cancer Technologies Program. The NCI Center for Global Health hosts the Affordable Cancer Technologies Program Principal Investigator Meeting: Cancer Detection, Diagnosis, and Treatment Technologies for Global Health to highlight the impact of research on early detection, diagnosis, and non-invasive or minimally invasive treatment of cancer. Eurasian Cancer Screening Conference 2018

CGH is partnering with N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Center of Belarus and WHO Collaborating Center for Cancer Screening and Early Detection to organize a cancer screening conference focused on the needs and priorities of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), including countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Baltics, Caucasus and Central Asia, in response to growing interest and participation in cancer screening research and implementation in the region. The Eurasian Cancer Screening Conference 2018 (ECSC 2018) addresses themes in cancer screening relevant to the CIS, in the areas of cervical, breast, colorectal and prostate cancer. ECSC 2018 is an opportunity for cancer screening researchers, program implementers, and decision makers to exchange best practices and discuss the evidence available for the implementation and evaluation of effective cancer screening strategies that could have a positive impact on the cancer burden in the region. In addition, it will offer an opportunity for U.S.-based cancer screening researchers to gain knowledge on strategies and success stories of CIS cancer screening programs, especially considering cancer types for which screening programs are not in place in the USA and where the evidence is still developing, such as prostate cancer; researchers will also discuss the feasibility of cancer screening research projects that may have applications to U.S. settings and populations.
2018 International Cancer Research Partnership Annual Meeting

Organizations funding cancer research around the world attend the International Cancer Research Partnership’s 2018 annual meeting on Wednesday April 11th, 2018 at the NCI/NIH Campus, Bethesda, MD. The meeting is hosted by the U.S. National Cancer Institute and the U.S. Congressionally-Directed Medical Research Programs. The theme is “Advancing cancer research through global partnership” and addresses trends in cancer research over the last ten years, gaps and opportunities moving forward, and innovative co-funding strategies to promote cross-sector and international collaboration.
6th Annual Symposium on Global Cancer Research
Global Cancer Research: Addressing Disparities, Locally and Globally

The 6th Annual Symposium on Global Cancer Research is supported and organized by New York University’s Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Health and the National Cancer Institute Center for Global Health with additional sponsorship and planning support from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, Rutgers Global Health Institute and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center, and CUGH. The objectives of this full-day Symposium on Global Cancer Research are to provide: 1) A comprehensive overview of the role of research in addressing local and global disparities in cancer care and control; 2) A stimulating and engaging forum for knowledge sharing; and 3) An environment that facilitates new collaborations to advance our knowledge and practice aimed at overcoming cancer disparities.
2nd Regional Centers of Research Excellence Principal Investigator Scientific Strategic Planning Meeting

The Annual Regional Centers of Research Excellence PI Scientific Strategic Planning Meeting brings together extramural investigators with NCI program staff to discuss best approaches for tackling cancer research problems that are a concern in the U.S., but don’t have the preponderance of disease to study them. These cancers tend to be common and a burden to unique populations in low- and middle-income countries. Areas of discussion will include biobanking, pathology, research training, and various organ-specific cancers.
