According to the report, under President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Zinke's first year in office, the economic output of Interior's federal lands and resources increased by $400 million to $292 billion and the number of jobs supported increased by 230,000 to 1.8 million jobs.

In May of 2018, Secretary Zinke directed a Border Support Surge initiative, which coordinated law enforcement officers from the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Border Patrol to execute high level operations to patrol and protect the border with Mexico.

The 400 Years of African-American History Commission, established by Congress on January 8, 2018, will plan, develop, and carry out programs and activities throughout the United States to recognize and highlight 400 years of African-American contributions. The bill had bipartisan support, and included sponsors from 23 States and the District of Columbia.

The $8.93 billion disbursed in FY 2018 is $1.82 billion higher than the $7.11 billion the Department disbursed in FY 2017. The increase in disbursements is primarily attributed to higher oil prices and demand caused by an improved economy, expedited permitting, streamlined regulations, and the growth in exports.

Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued conditional approval to Hilcorp Alaska LLC for its Liberty Project oil and gas development and production plan. If developed, the facility would be the first oil and gas production facility in federal waters off Alaska.
