L&I conducts electrical inspections to ensure the safety of all Washington citizens, whether at home or at work.

Important Information: New users must also submit an Application to Access Electronic Permits & Inspection System (EPIS) (F500-055-000) to receive access to EPIS through My L&I.

Email addresses are required on all permits purchased online. The email address is used to send an email when an inspection has been uploaded by an inspector.

Note: Processing time for L&I permits purchased:

  • Online: Immediately.
  • In person at a service location: Immediately.
  • Postal mail: Same day as received.

Washington businesses that employ regular maintenance staff can also purchase annual electrical permits (F500-123-000) to save time and money. One annual permit covers regularly scheduled inspections for your electrical maintenance, alterations and some new wiring in your existing facility.

Check the list of cities that conduct their own electrical inspections

If your city is on the list, and you live within the city limits, you will need to contact the local inspector for an electrical permit and inspection.

Pay fee dues using your permit number and authorization code

Pay your fee due by credit card (American Express, Discover, Visa and MasterCard). You must have your permit number and authorization code ready. The authorization code is provided on the second page of your permit.

Get your electrical plan reviewed

All electrical plans for new or altered electrical installations in educational, institutional, and health or personal care occupancies must be reviewed and approved before the electrical installation or alteration is started.
