Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Supply & Distribution
Influenza viruses change from year to year, so influenza vaccines must be updated annually to include the viruses that will most likely circulate in the upcoming season. Once the viruses are selected for the new formulation, private manufacturers produce, test, release and distribute influenza vaccine.
Influenza vaccine distribution information for the 2018-2019 season is posted here as CDC receives it, typically on Fridays. Please continue to check this page for the most up-to-date information.
Flu vaccine is produced by private manufacturers, so supply depends on manufacturers. For the 2018-2019 season, manufacturers have projected they will provide as many as 163 to 168 million doses of influenza vaccine for the U.S. market. (Projections may change as the season progresses.)
