Prevent Seasonal Flu

Note: “Prevention and Control of Seasonal Influenza with Vaccines: Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices — United States, 2018–19 Influenza Season” has been published. CDC recommends annual influenza vaccination for everyone 6 months and older with any licensed, age-appropriate flu vaccine (IIV, RIV4, or LAIV4) with no preference expressed for any one vaccine over another. The best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year. This page has resources to help answer your questions about the flu vaccine.

Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season, especially people at high risk.

Take actions every day to help stop the spread of germs. Getting a flu vaccine is the most important.

There are prescription medications called “antiviral drugs” that can be used to treat flu illness.
