Meet Our State Executive Director:

David R. Lavway was appointed by the Trump Administration to serve as theDavid R. Lavway, State Executive Director state executive director of the Maine USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in October 2017, a position he previously held during the George W. Bush administration.

Lavway grew up on a diversified potato, grain and livestock operation in Washburn, Maine. He graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in agricultural business and economics.

He began his career in 1969 with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. Over the course of his career, he worked as a district director of the Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District, executive director of the Maine Potato Board, government relations director for the National Potato Council, administrative officer for USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and deputy commissioner for the Maine State Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and the Department of Administrative and Financial Services.

He is a founding member of the Agriculture Council of Maine and was appointed to serve two terms on the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Fruits and Vegetables. Lavway has also served as a member and chairman of the USDA Potato Industry Advisory Committee for Research and Extension.

Lavway and his wife, Joanne, have two daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He and Joanne live in Glenburn with their labradoodle, Lexi.
