Programs

NIFA programs are the mechanism by which we pursue our mission to invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges. Some programs administer funding and offer leadership while others focus on national leadership and collaboration. For more information on a particular program, use the site’s search tool.

Adult Development and Aging Programs

The NIFA Division of Family and Consumer Sciences (DFCS), in partnership with the land-grant universities, is committed to addressing priority issues related to older adults through research, education, and Extension. Together, through this unique partnership, resources are made available to meet the educational and decision-making needs of older adults, their families, and those who care for them.

Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)

EFNEP assists low income families in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and changed behavior necessary for nutritionally sound diets as well as contributes to their personal development and the improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well-being.

Animal Reproduction

NIFA provides funding for basic and applied research in animal reproduction, and supports extension and education programs that transfer new science-based knowledge to the field and classroom.

Manure & Nutrient Management Programs

Manure is a valuable source of plant nutrients but also a potential pollutant. Proper management of nutrients from commercial fertilizers and organic sources is important to protect our environment and to have economically and environmentally sustainable livestock operations. NIFA works with government agencies and commodity and public organizations that conduct research and carry out extension and education programs to manage manure and plant nutrients.
