Grants Process Cycle

These grants process cycles provide an overview of the lifecycle for competitive, non-competitive, and capacity grants. Understanding the lifecycle of the award process can help you determine what your role is at any particular point in time and can be a useful planning tool in preparing for Pre-Award, Award, and Post-Award activities.

Capacity and Non-Competitive

Capacity and non-competitive grant process timeline. Applicant searches for grant, fills out application requirements, and applies for grant. NIFA then reviews the list of grant applicants, reviews applications, and awards. After the awarding, the applicant hears back from NIFA and NIFA then does an administrative review. The applicant then responds to the agency, accepts the award, sets up funding, with draws funds and reports before closing out. NIFA then closes out the process.
