The Office of Head Start (OHS) offers current and historical information about the funding, location, and services of Head Start programs and centers. The resources below include Head Start-related research, program monitoring review reports, and access to Program Information Report (PIR) data.

Head Start Program Information

The Head Start Program Facts provide annual information on demographics, state allocations, program statistics, and general information on Head Start enrollment history.

The Head Start Services Snapshot summarizes key data on demographics and services from the most recent Program Information Report (PIR) for the national program. Snapshots are also available for preschool Head Start and Early Head Start.

The Grantee Service Profiles provide national and grantee-level information on reported demographics, services, and federal monitoring of Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Head Start Research

The Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation advises the Acting Assistant Secretary for the Administration for Children and Families on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of programs to improve the economic and social well-being of children and families.

Office of Head Start Tribal Consultations

OHS convenes Tribal Consultation sessions as required by Section 640(1)(4) of the Head Start Act and in conformity with the Department of Health and Human Services Tribal Consultation Policy. The consultations provide a forum for discussing how to better meet the needs of American Indian/Alaska Native children and families. Tribal Consultation reports reflect comments and recommendations raised by Tribal leaders and their representatives; comments and responses from OHS; and areas identified at the Tribal Consultations as requiring follow-up by OHS.

Reports to Congress

OHS submits reports to Congress on various topics, including the Monitoring System and the Designation Renewal System, pursuant to the Head Start Act.  See a full list of Reports to Congress on the ECLKC website.
