Ending Veteran Homelessness
- Homeless Veterans living in the eleven counties surrounding Beckley are safely housed thanks to the efforts of an interagency initiative. The Mayor announces an end to Veteran homelessness in the region.

Volunteer Driver Helps After Accident
- Melvin Evans has logged many miles behind the wheel of a vehicle. After serving in Vietnam in the Navy, Melvin worked in refrigeration repair, driving from one of Beckley, W.Va. to the next.
Mercer County Mobile Clinic
- Responding to Veteran demand, VA Announces plans for a mobile clinic slated for Mercer County, W.Va., to be managed by Beckley VAMC when it opens near the Princeton Vet center next spring.

Southern West Virginia Veteran Competes in Wheelchair Games
- Stephen Hudson from McDowell County, West Virginia, competes at the world's largest annual wheelchair sports competition - The 32nd Annual Wheelchair Games. Hudson bought home a Gold medal in weightlifting. He lost both of his legs due to blood clots, but is working hard toovercome the challenges of his disability.
Organ Transplant Support Group
- Don't take your organs to heaven. Heaven knows we need them here. - Organ and tissue donor bumper sticker Every third Monday at the Beckley VA Medical Center, a local support group for organ transplant recipients and their families meet to discuss topics from lifelong antirejection medications and their side effects to the spiritual and social issues of organ donation and receipt.
Caregiving: VA recognizes the Labor of Love
- Caregivers are family members and loved ones who provide care for Veterans living with the effects of war, disability, chronic illness, or aging. They deserve VA’s highest level of support. Caregivers are the critical link to ensuring Veterans have the highest quality care and optimal wellness. VA values the sacrifices caregivers make to help Veterans remain at home and Beckley VA Medical Center wants our caregivers to know that we are here to support them with resources, tools, answers, and a listening ear. Last month during National Family Caregiver Month Beckley VA Medical Center treated caregivers to a spa day and a special luncheon.
Beckley VAMC Celebrates National Pharmacy Week
- Ever wonder who makes sure that you get the right medication? During National Pharmacy Week, the Beckley VAMC pharmacy staff provides patients with an opportunity to learn and ask questions about common Over-the-Counter cough and cold medications. Students from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy will aid Veterans in making proper over-the-counter choices.
