U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today announced a $357,375 federal grant to improve security at Union County schools. The grant was awarded through the School Violence Prevention Program, a Department of Justice (DOJ) program created by bipartisan legislation sponsored by Bost. The Securing Our Schools Act was signed into law in March 2018. Bost sent a letter to local government officials to raise awareness of the funding availability and met with school administrators in Anna this summer. 91 jurisdictions were awarded school safety grants nationwide, including 7 in Illinois during the program’s first year. 8 Union County schools were awarded a total of $357,375. The program is expected to grow as awareness increases.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost today announced a National Science Foundation (NSF) funding award of $180,000 and a Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) award of $244,850 to SIU Carbondale. The NSF grant will support a project related to quantum computing, while the HHS grant will be used to further research into the development and function of Sertoli cells.

The House of Representatives today passed bipartisan legislation by a vote of 393 to 13 that reforms the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), strengthens passenger protections, and improves America’s long-term stability and competitiveness. Included in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 (H.R. 4) were Bost’s amendments directing the Department of Transportation to better comply with “Buy America” requirements and encouraging colleges and universities to partner with aviation companies to promote careers in the industry.
