WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) attended the christening of the future USS St. Louis in Wisconsin. Blunt released the following statement after the ceremony:

“It was an honor to be part of the future USS St. Louis christening ceremony. This is the seventh ship to carry the name of this great Missouri city - from the early years of the American expansion as a Sloop-of-War, through the Civil War as an ironclad gunboat, to supporting the Allies as a troop transport and protected cruiser during WWI and supporting the Pacific theater as a light cruiser during WWII, and finally as an amphibious cargo ship between 1969 and 1991. I have no doubt the future USS St. Louis will continue that long, proud history. It is a symbol of the enduring connection between St. Louisans and the United States Navy. It is also part of our commitment, as a nation, to strengthening our defense and keeping America safe. President Truman once said, ‘Carry the battle to them. Don’t let them bring it to you.’ The addition of the future USS St. Louis will enable the Navy to do just that.”

farm bureau award

WASHINGTON – Earlier this week, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) attended the Missouri Farm Bureau Annual Meeting, where he received the Friend of Farm Bureau award for his work supporting Missouri farmers and the agriculture community. Blunt released the following statement after receiving the award:

“As the son of dairy farmers, I know firsthand how hard our farmers work to feed and fuel the world. Given our unique location as a hub for the nation’s highways, railways, and waterways, Missouri is well-positioned to continue expanding our role as a global ag leader. To take advantage of the opportunities ahead, we must have an effective and sustained federal farm policy. I always appreciate the input the Farm Bureau provides when it comes to making sure we have the right policies in place to support continued growth in the ag industry. I’m honored to receive this award, and grateful for the opportunity to represent Missouri’s farm families in the Senate.”

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) met with Ryan and Tarah Craft, who are the proud parents of an adopted daughter and dedicated advocates for adoption. Blunt released the following statement after the visit:

“As co-chair of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, and an adoptive dad myself, I know how much joy and happiness welcoming a child into your home can bring – and the obstacles many families face when they pursue adoption. With so many children looking for a place to call home, we should be making it easier, not harder, to adopt. Ryan and Tarah Craft are exemplary parents and were eager to bring their daughter, Jessica, from the Democratic Republic of Congo home to Missouri but faced an uphill battle. It was an honor to work with them on that process and to visit with them in Washington. I was especially glad to hear how Jessica is happy and thriving in her forever home.”

Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) met with community leaders in Ste. Genevieve for a roundtable discussion and toured the historic Amoureux House and Bequette-Ribault House. Blunt released the following statement after the visit:

“The Ste. Genevieve community has worked tirelessly to preserve the rich history of this unique area so it can be treasured for generations to come. Establishing Ste. Genevieve as a National Historic Park and making it a part of the National Park System will allow visitors to gain a sense of, and deeper appreciation for, the role our state played in westward expansion. I always look forward to visiting this special corner of our state, and was honored to play a role in making the historical park designation a reality.”

Ste. Genevieve was founded as a French colony in the early 1700s and is Missouri’s oldest town. In 2018, after more than 20 years of efforts by the community, the National Park Service designated Ste. Genevieve as a national historic park. The Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park will showcase nearly 300 years of history, including centuries-old homes featuring French colonial architecture.
