Congressman James Comer

Representing the 1st District of Kentucky

Small Business and Economy

Unleashing economic growth begins with reducing taxes and reining in government regulations that make it more difficult for Americans to start businesses, compete globally and grow jobs here at home. We must continue to build on the success of the historic tax reform legislation and deregulation to help American families, businesses and entrepreneurs achieve their dreams. As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, Congressman Comer is dedicated to advancing policies and enacting reforms to support small businesses in Kentucky and across the nation.

While perspectives are diverse among the 435 Members of the House of Representatives, each of us play a significant role in serving our unique portions of the nation. Over the past year, and throughout the 115th Congress, it is important to reflect on some of the major accomplishments that lead us into the next Congress.

For decades, the city of Paducah, Kentucky has served as a major hub of the inland waterways system due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers. To highlight the importance of the river industry to our region, I invited Representatives Jason Smith of Missouri and David Kustoff of Tennessee to join me in Paducah for a meeting with industry experts. We had a productive discussion on the economic benefits of our inland waterways system and explored ways to modernize and maintain this critical resource.

On November 14, 2016, I was sworn in as the new representative for Kentucky’s 1st District. That night on the House floor, I said, “It is an honor of a lifetime to join in this great legislative body.” While it seems like yesterday that I made my journey to Capitol Hill, one year has passed and we have made great progress for our country. As we approach the end of November, I am thrilled to look back at what we have accomplished.
