When our fellow Americans bravely put on the uniform to serve, as over 150,000 Northeast Floridians have, we must ensure that their sacrifice does not go unnoticed. Our nation’s commitment to our service men and women must not end when they depart the military. Yet we continue to hear stories of veterans not receiving the care and services they deserve. That’s why when I came to Congress, I wanted to and now proudly serve on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee where I can work on addressing these issues firsthand. In coordination with my colleagues on the Committee, veteran service organizations, and the VA leadership, I am committed to working to restoring a culture of accountability at the VA. I take this responsibility very seriously and will continue to work on legislation that has positive impacts in the lives of our nation’s veterans.

Veterans Day is an especially important occasion in Northeast Florida, home to one the most heavily military and veteran populations in the country. It is an honor to serve this community in Congress, and on Veterans Day, our citizens came together to pause and honor the many brave and selfless men and women in our community who served our nation at home and abroad.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives voted to approve the House-Senate agreement on H.R. 5895, the Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2019. This bill makes key investments in water infrastructure and coastal flood protection, improves care and benefits for our nation’s veterans, and strengthens our military assets. The measure, which passed the Senate yesterday, is expected to be signed into law by President Trump in the coming days.
GAINESVILLE, FL/LAKE CITY, FL: Last week, House VA Subcommittee on Health Chairman Neal Dunn (FL-02), Congressmen Ted Yoho (FL-03) and John Rutherford (FL-04), conducted oversight visits of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGHVS) in Gainesville and Lake City.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs voted to advance H.R. 5674, the Department of Veterans Affairs Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks, or VA MISSION Act. This bill includes Congressman John Rutherford’s (R-FL) Veterans Affairs Physician Recruitment Act, which will strengthen the VA’s ability to recruit and retain quality providers through scholarships, attractive loan repayment plans, and a pilot program that will increase the number of providers who are veterans themselves.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee unanimously voted to advance H.R. 4242, the VA Care in the Community Act, to the full House for consideration. This bill will streamline the VA’s community care programs while also working to improve VA’s internal capacity to care for veteran patients. An amendment included by Congressman Rutherford would help VA fill health care provider positions, which are in critical shortage, by improving physician recruitment.
