Committee Assignments

Energy and Commerce Committee

Congressman Flores is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The Energy and Commerce Committee is the oldest standing legislative committee in the House of Representatives. The committee’s jurisdictional responsibilities include the nation's telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, energy policy and interstate and foreign commerce. It oversees multiple cabinet-level Departments and independent agencies, including the Departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Transportation, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission.

Congressman Flores believes that his three decades as a job creator in the energy industry will help positively influence policy coming from the committee. He believes it is important that we work to make America a global energy superpower and to achieve American energy security. He also believes it is important that the committee work to reform federal policies in an effort to expand and streamline access to health care and preserve a robust, open and competitive telecommunications landscape.

Veterans' Affairs Committee 

Congressman Flores rejoined the Veterans' Affairs Committee in June of 2018, after previously serving on the committee from 2011-2014, during the 112th and 113th Congresses. He chaired the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity during the 113th Congress.  The Veterans' Affairs Committee is the authorizing committee for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The committee is responsible for recommending legislation expanding, curtailing, or fine-tuning existing laws relating to veterans' benefits. The Committee also has oversight responsibility, which means monitoring and evaluating the operations of the VA. 

Congressman Flores is committed to ensuring our veterans have access to the care and resources they have earned, and bringing increased accountability and transparency to the VA.
