Trump's shutdown is as stupid and pointless as the wall he is petulantly demanding. Federal workers should know that I am working with my capital region colleagues to stop the shutdown, and to make sure you get your paychecks. Happy holidays, and I'm sorry this has happened.

BREAKING: U.S. immigration authorities say an 8-year-old boy from Guatemala has died in government custody. It's the second instance this month of an immigrant child dying while being detained.

There’s no better time than the holidays to give back to your community. Yesterday I got to do just that at . As we celebrate the season and look forward to 2019, let’s recommit to doing our part to build a world that is a little more generous, tolerant, and kind.

These are heartbreaking. You are heard and your pain is felt, and more importantly, I will make sure that Congress provides back pay from this shutdown. The federal workforce that has been treated like dirt and it has to stop.

Crossing my fingers that this gets resolved soon. My sister and brother in law work for USFWS and at caregivers for my disabled brother. They cannot afford to go long without pay.

I have family and friends that took back Christmas presents so they can afford rent and food once the paychecks stop. It’s hella expensive to live in the dc area. Everyone I know lives paycheck to paycheck. Missed pay will decimate them.

I had my daughters tricycle listed for sale online. A woman came to buy it and she was a gov’t employee and saving now that she doesn’t know when she’ll go back to work, so she needed to spend less on the bike she was giving her child for Xmas. I gave it to her.

My husband is a Park Ranger in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and he had to sign his furlough papers. We have a 4 yr old and a 4 month old, and we don't know when his next check will come. Mortgage is due, Christmas 2 days away.

We were relying on that paycheck to pay the car payment because I was too sick to work most of the month. Thank you, Mr. President.

Trump can end the shutdown at any time by agreeing to sign a bill that he previously said he would sign after it passed the Senate *unanimously*

Some of my GOP colleagues in the House have been very cavalier about the damage their shutdown is doing to federal employees. They aren’t on this bill. 30% of the federal workforce is veterans; 100% don’t deserve to permanently lose their paychecks. Do the right thing.

I note that very few members of the party that shut down the government have backed my legislation to restore pay to federal employees. Of 70+ cosponsors on this list, only 7 are Republicans. Does the GOP not think federal workers should get paid?

Our nation’s public servants working or furloughed during this shutdown deserve the peace of mind of knowing they will be paid. I am pleased to cosponsor and support bipartisan legislation in the House that ensures federal employees affected by a shutdown receive retroactive pay.

Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary, is in the glitzy resort town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, during the government shutdown. The Treasury Department’s funding has lapsed.
