The House Small Business Committee conducts vigorous oversight of federal agencies, closely monitors legislative proposals, and examines proposed rulemakings to ensure that the government does not unfairly expand the scope of programs that could negatively affect a small business owners flexibility to run their businesses and manage their workforce. “One size fits all” policies, such as the “overtime” and “Volks” rules and the expanded joint employer standard, have harmed the small business owner’s ability to expand or even to open a new business.   Also, with the lowest unemployment rate in 16 years, it is more important than ever to create a climate that helps small businesses find, hire, and maintain a competitive workforce with the necessary skills for the modern economy.  Ninety nine percent of all businesses in the United States are classified as small and, in the 115th Congress, the House Small Business Committee is continuing work to ensure small firms have a seat at the table when the federal government discusses changes to the way business is done.
