    I will never be in favor of a government shutdown. took action to prevent a shutdown over & it is a shame the Senate did not follow suit. As Members of Congress, we have a responsibility to fund the government & we also have a duty to protect...

    While I am still in Washington, I wanted to deliver early Christmas presents to a number of young East back home. This afternoon I made surprise phone calls to inform high school students in that I have nominated them to our nation’s service academies.

    Last night passed a bill requiring Senate Democrats to make a decision – do they want to keep our government open & secure our border or shut down our government down at the expense of the safety & security of our country? This is an easy choice.

    I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Bill Bennett. As Assessor of Property and a member of the County Commission, he was a tireless public servant who truly embodied the best of East Tennessee. The legacy of Bill Bennett will forever be intertwined
