U.S. Rep. Castor is proud of Tampa Bay’s immediate response to collect donations and items to send to our neighbors in Puerto Rico, as well as assist families who have relocated to our region. She has started the Puerto Rico Recovery and Assistance Task Force made up of local leaders to maximize collaboration, and will continue to fight for the resources the island needs to rebuild for resiliency, and stronger infrastructure and economy. 

U.S. Rep. Castor worked to help pass a bipartisan emergency appropriations bill in the U.S. House for early disaster response in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and other communities affected by Hurricanes Maria, Irma and Harvey.  U.S. Rep. Castor is Tampa Bay’s strongest advocate in fighting for the needed resources families on the island will need to rebuild. She urged President Trump to immediately waive the Jones Act, like he did for Florida and other states that have experienced severe disruptions of the oil supply system from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.  So that Puerto Ricans never again experience 100 percent power loss, as vice ranking member of the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee, U.S. Rep. Castor has pressed for robust electric generation, grid modernization and resiliency policies.  In addition, U.S. Rep. Castor urged for further mobilization of U.S. Department of Defense to deploy additional assets to support of Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as urged expanding Katrina tax law to provide critical tax relief for those hit by recent natural disasters.
