SMITH, Edward Dunlap; a House Chaplain; born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa., 1805; A.M., College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), Princeton, N.J., 1822; attended University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.; D.D., College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J., 1849; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the Twenty-third Congress (December 10, 1834–March 3, 1835); pastor, Old Chelsea Presbyterian Church, New York, N.Y., 1838–1868; died on March 28, 1883, in New York, N.Y.
