LANE, Newton, a Sergeant at Arms from Kentucky; birth date unknown; member of the Kentucky state house of representatives, 1836–1837 and 1839; elected Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. House of Representatives for the Twenty-eighth Congress and for the succeeding Congress (December 7, 1843–December 8, 1847); unsuccessful candidate for election to the Thirty-first Congress in 1849; died on June 3, 1851.
