GOODNOW, Ira, a Doorkeeper from New York; born in 1816; staff, Office of the Doorkeeper of the United States House of Representatives, 1857–1861; elected Doorkeeper of the United States House of Representatives for the Thirty-seventh Congress and for the two succeeding Congresses (July 5, 1861–March 5, 1867); died on September 15, 1883, in High Falls, N.Y; interment in Green-wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
