    The idea that it’s wrong to secure our own borders, but right to spend & fight to secure someone else’s strikes most Americans as perverse. Americans do not embrace this costly, unconstitutional status quo of American funded and operated perpetual combat around the world.

    President after president can get us into wars—without public support, without congressional approval, in violation of the Constitution—but when says he wants to get us out of a war (one that Congress never authorized), *that’s* what outrages the political class.

    ., this is inaccurate. Federal employees will receive their next paycheck, even under a lapse. Let’s come together over the holidays and secure the border, not spread confusion.

    This shutdown was completely avoidable. Now, hundreds of thousands of federal employees will go without a paycheck over the holidays as throws another temper tantrum over his stupid wall. Republicans’ latest attempt to divide and distract us.

    Make no mistake, without real leadership from today, there would have been another surrender bill today. Just like September (with Defense + Labor HHS), just like March (with OMNIBUS), . Hopefully, this will stiffen resolve and further unite .

    So Republicans will threaten to draw a line in the sand on a border wall, but not on Planned Parenthood funding?

    Due to the Trump administration’s strong leadership, “catch and release” has ended. Illegal immigrants apprehended in the U.S. must now return to Mexico. Thank you to the government of Mexico, who is now doing more to solve our illegal immigration problem than the Democrats.

    At some point, spending bills might be about - you know, uh - spending. But let's be clear there is no fiscal discipline from Democrats and not enough from Republicans to carry the bills. Good to highlight the 56 who voted no on the last excess spending bill. Send reinforcements.

    Later this morning, we’ll introduce a continuing resolution that will ensure continuous funding for the federal government. The measure will provide the resources necessary to continue normal operations through February 8th.

    No surrender & No shutdown. should jam a CR until noon on January 3, 2021. No new $$$ for , and no erosion on terms & conditions. Bipartisan agreement would be required for anything new, with no hostage-taking on "must-pass" deadlines.

    Of course, with Jon Kyl in the Senate, the could pass the Bill. It provides certainty, protects pre-existing conditions, and reforms Obamacare. A better Bill in 116th Congress seems improbable.

    A great place to start? The Senate should immediately pass HR372 ending federal antitrust exemptions for health insurance companies. Few bills on any topic have been more bipartisan: it passed the House 416-7 in March 2017. Still no vote in the Senate. Ask your Senator, "Why?" .
