Former Southfield Mayor Democrat Brenda Lawrence is embarking on her second year in a new legislative role: Serving as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Lawrence says the experience has been both eye-opening and a new way to help attract employers to Metro Detroit.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Rep. Brenda Lawrence voted with the majority of her colleagues in the House to adopt, by a vote of 316 to 113, the FY 2016 Omnibus Appropriations bill. This measure funds the government for FY 2016.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Brenda Lawrence (MI-14) on Thursday issued the following statement after voting against the tax extenders package.
Rep. Brenda Lawrence will host a Winter Resource Fair to bring together 14th District constituents with local agencies, organizations, and companies that can assist residents in preparation for the fall and winter season. This includes helping residents with applications for reduced utility bills as well as affordable housing needs and food assistance. The goal is to address these issues now to prevent the life-threatening loss of heat and water services, nutrition, clothing, and shelter during severe cold weather months.
Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) will host a Seniors Outreach Social on Monday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Sheridan Place II, 7601 E. Jefferson, Detroit.
Congresswoman Lawrence will provide a congressional update and host a Q&A session.
