Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
Chairman
The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) was established in 1977 to provide oversight over the United States Intelligence Community (IC). The IC is a federation of executive branch agencies and organizations that work separately and together to conduct intelligence activities necessary for the conduct of foreign relations and the protection of the national security of the United States. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is probably the most widely recognized agency subject to HPSCI oversight. However, the committee maintains both authorization authority and budgetary control over all classified government programs.
The HPSCI conducts the vast majority of its work in closed session due to the sensitive nature of its work.
