Google's self-driving car came by the Senate office buildings yesterday. The car utilizes multiple sensors and lasers and communicates with satellites in real time to drive around completely unmanned, if necessary. It was impressive to see it manuever through the streets of Washington, D.C. without a driver.

The Google employees shared with me the story of a man who recently took a self-driving car for a test drive. Being blind, he had never had the opportunity to drive before, an activity most of us never think about. While on his test drive he went through a fast food drive through, another first for him. He was incredibly excited to do something many of us do on a daily basis.

The car handled obstructions in the road fairly well, and avoided pedestrians in the crosswalks, thankfully!

It will be interesting to see what possibilities this kind of technology will bring about, and how it will be able to positively impact people’s lives.

For now, though, I’m content driving my car myself!
