FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., March 11, 2011) - EPA Regional Administrator Karl Brooks will host a Regulatory Reform Listening Session on March 15 in Springfield, Mo., at which citizens will be welcomed to submit comments and suggestions for ways the Agency can make its regulatory programs more effective and less burdensome.

The listening session, to be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, at The Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave., in Springfield, is part of the Agency’s fulfillment of Executive Order 13563 issued by President Obama on January 18, 2011.

Through the order, President Obama has directed all federal agencies to facilitate the periodic review of existing significant regulations. In fulfillment of the order, EPA will "consider how best to promote retrospective analysis of rules that may be outmoded, ineffective, insufficient, or excessively burdensome, and to modify, streamline, expand, or repeal them in accordance with what has been learned," the order says.

Regional Administrator Brooks and other EPA Region 7 representatives will attend the listening session. Citizens will be invited to provide comments orally or in writing. The proceedings will be recorded on video and transcribed into permanent record for submission to EPA Headquarters, where they will become part of the Agency’s formal report to the White House.

Through March 20, 2011, citizens are also invited to submit comments online at www.epa.gov/lawsregs/retrospective.
