Congressman James Comer

Representing the 1st District of Kentucky

Oversight and Government Reform

Congress must work towards reining in the amount of regulatory red tape enacted in recent years. Eliminating unnecessary government spending, fraud and abuse will help ensure the government is operating at maximum effectiveness and not unnecessarily interfering in the lives of citizens. As a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Congressman Comer will continue to hold our nation’s public servants and officials to the highest ethical standards and promote greater government transparency and accountability.

December 18, 2018 Press Release

2018 has been packed with important debate, deliberation, and compromises as well as many successes. My Republican colleagues and I have worked hard to deliver on our promises to the American people and to uphold President Trump’s America-first agenda. While perspectives are diverse among the 435 Members of the House of Representatives, each of us play a significant role in serving our unique portions of the nation. Over the past year, and throughout the 115th Congress, it is important to reflect on some of the major accomplishments that lead us into the next Congress.

August 1, 2018 Press Release

As your representative in Congress, I am committed to fighting for the issues that matter most to the First District of Kentucky. In recent months, I have seen firsthand the threat posed by Asian carp to our beautiful lakes and rivers in Western Kentucky, and the communities that rely on these waters for fishing, tourism, recreation and so much more. This invasive species has wreaked havoc on the local ecosystem, displaced the formerly plentiful game fish that draw so many anglers to the region, and, in the case of Silver carp, injured boaters and other Kentuckians out on the water.

WASHINGTON – Congressman James Comer (KY-01) issued the following statement regarding the federal government shutdown:

“I am appalled that Senate Democrats would allow our troops to risk going without a paycheck and allow funding for the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to expire, all to force immediate amnesty for illegal immigrants.  Our troops and children deserve to be first and deserve better.  I call on Senate Democrats to stop holding troops and children hostage and re-open the government.”

November 28, 2017 Press Release

On November 14, 2016, I was sworn in as the new representative for Kentucky’s 1st District. That night on the House floor, I said, “It is an honor of a lifetime to join in this great legislative body.” While it seems like yesterday that I made my journey to Capitol Hill, one year has passed and we have made great progress for our country. As we approach the end of November, I am thrilled to look back at what we have accomplished.

October 3, 2017 Press Release

During Congress’ annual August recess period, I had the opportunity to travel to Israel with fellow Members of Congress on an educational trip focused on foreign policy and national security issues. As I traveled throughout this small nation, I met with U.S., Israeli and Palestinian officials, military officers and business representatives and gained considerable insight into the many challenges and opportunities facing our country and our allies in the region.

June 26, 2017 Press Release

WASHINGTON – Continuing to set himself apart from the rest of Congress with respect to personal transparency, Congressman James Comer was one of six members of 535 members of Congress to disclose his entire 2016 tax returns.

Roll Call magazine requested each of the 435 representatives and 100 senators release their entire 2016 tax returns. Despite the public disclosure of President Trump’s tax returns being a major issue in Washington, only six members of Congress actually fully responded to the request. Comer was one and was featured in the national article.
