Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) today released the following statement on the passing of former U.S. Congressman Ed Pastor:

“Arizona lost a one of a kind leader with the passing of my dear friend, former Congressman Ed Pastor. I first met Ed decades ago when he served on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. It was in this capacity that he first made a name for himself as a dedicated public servant before running for Congress in 1991. Throughout his 23 years in Congress, Ed was a tireless advocate for the Arizonans he represented and an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a trailblazer as the first Hispanic member of Congress from the state, and worked with members of both parties to effect change – I had the honor to collaborate with him on many issues important to the state and the country.

“Ed leaves a lasting legacy in the projects he championed and in a state that is far better for his efforts. He will be remembered for his love for Arizona and its people. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Verma and their family.”
