Thune Statement on Senate Tax Reform Proposal

“This proposal is good news for American workers and American families.”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement today regarding the Senate Finance Committee’s comprehensive tax reform plan based on the unified framework.

“Middle-income Americans are tired of struggling under a weak economy. They are ready for relief. This proposal is good news for American workers and American families. The proposal the Senate Finance Committee unveiled today lowers tax rates, doubles the standard deduction, and increases the child tax credit, all of which will put more money into the pockets of hardworking Americans and give them more flexibility to care for their families. By lowering taxes on small businesses and other job creators, our plan also makes the reforms necessary to boost our economy and give Americans access to the kinds of jobs, wages, and opportunities that will set them up for a secure future. I commend Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch for his leadership and look forward to working with our colleagues in the House and the Trump administration to ensure a pro-growth tax reform package is signed into law.”
